Covenant House is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping youth facing or at risk of homelessness, offering safe shelter and essential programs. I’ve been photographing events for Covenant House Toronto since 2019, primarily their annual Sleep Out fundraisers, where participants spend a night outside in solidarity with homeless youth, hear directly from the young people, and tour the facilities.
These events involve long hours, challenging weather and lighting conditions, and quick turnarounds, but offer powerful moments of empathy, reflection, and community. My photography captures the atmosphere of the evening, participants’ genuine reactions to the youth stories, and the shared commitment of staff and attendees to supporting this vital organization.
The gallery below is a selection of images from multiple years of Sleep Out events. For more comprehensive galleries, see here.
“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Lucy for several years through various fundraising events, and she continues to amaze me every time. She has an incredible ability to capture the raw emotion and unique spirit of each event so beautifully. On days filled with logistics and moving pieces, I never have to worry about the quality of our photos — Lucy always delivers. Our turnaround time is one of the tighter deadlines, and I can always rely on her to get everything to me right on time.”
- Georgia Arden, Events Team“We have been working with Lucy for our events at Covenant House for many years. Lucy is amazing to work with, she always knows how to capture the essence of our events and has the photos to us in time to share with participants while the event vibes are still palpable.”
